Hebrew Day School - Ann Arbor, Michigan Judaic and general studies, Immersion Hebrew programs

Our Mission

8:10 AM – 3:20 PM. “Boker Tov” early morning is staffed beginning at 7:30 a.m. (additional fee). The Kids Konnection after-school program, run by the Jewish Community Center in the same building in which HDS is housed, is available to all children in kindergarten through fifth grade, and is open from 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. each day. Service is provided on a monthly or drop-in basis. You can obtain more information about this program here.

Services:

  • School psychologist, resource/enrichment teacher, and English as a Second Language teacher on staff.

School Year:

  • School usually opens at the end of August and continues through the third week in June.

Communication between school and home:

  • Open communication between students, parents, teachers and administration is welcomed and encouraged. Report cards and formal parent conferences are scheduled twice yearly. Teachers communicate informally with parents through written weekly reports and/or email and/or telephone. For a sample weekly progress report from the Gan, click here.

Transportation:

  • The Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) provide free bus transportation to Hebrew Day School students who live within the Ann Arbor Public School District. HDS therefore has bus service only on days and times that the Ann Arbor Public Schools are in session. The HDS office notifies the parent body in advance of those days where HDS is open but there is no bus service.
  • Bus service is provided in the afternoon. Students must ride the bus on a regular basis with a consistent weekly schedule in order to be eligible. For the afternoon pickup, parents fill out a bus service request form listing the closest cross streets to their homes, and the Ann Arbor Public Schools provides a proposed routing system after it receives the list of bus riders each new school year. HDS provides information about bus numbers and estimated stop times to parents and ensures that children properly board the bus in the afternoon.
