Hebrew Day School - Ann Arbor, Michigan Judaic and general studies, Immersion Hebrew programs

Library

Hebrew Day School general studies library programs strive to create a culture of reading at the school and to make every HDS graduate a committed reader. The HDS librarian, a trained reading specialist, makes herself familiar with the reading choices of students and recommends additional possibilities at progressively more difficult reading levels that will individually appeal to each child. In several grades the librarian conducts a “book talk” in which children have an opportunity to talk about the books they have read that week, rate them, and make recommendations to other children. Gan comes to the library once a week. Every other grade comes to the library twice a week, once during their general studies time and once during Judaics. During Judaics library in several grades, parent volunteers who are native speakers of Hebrew read books to students.
