Internationally Acclaimed Musicians Spend

Time at HDS

Great musicians visit HDS, play for students and listen to our budding pianists and instrumentalists play. Among our visitors have been the internationally acclaimed pianist Michael Gurt, who was a first prize winner in the Gina Bachauer piano competition and who has performed as soloist with the Chicago Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and many others. Michael Gurt, who grew up in Ann Arbor and is the brother of a current parent and the son of a long-time HDS teacher, played for our students and then listened to five of our up and coming student pianists!

Another school visitor was Arie Lipsky, conductor of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, who played both flute and cello for our students, heard a short concert by our Klez Kids Klezmer Band, and talked about his life as a musician.

HDS students received a special treat when the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra visited Ann Arbor —a visit from members of the wind and brass section of the orchestra. Read more about their visit here. See a slideshow of the musicians’ visit here.
